- Sony VAIO VGN-NR498E (white) has some appeal
It lacks some standard mainstream laptop features, including an integrated Webcam and multimedia control buttons, but the Sony VAIO VGN-NR498 holds some appeal thanks to its decent performance, good battery life, and excellent keyboard. Still, there's a cheaper version of this VAIO laptop we like better.

- Ultrasone HFI-2200 ULE a good pick Ultrasone's HFI-2200 headphones score well on every count: they're comfortable, well built, and sound great.

- Dell Studio Hybrid fills a niche If you're considering all of the computers in the $700 to $1,000 price range, the Dell Studio Hybrid is not very compelling. However, if you limit yourself to the very specific niche of small PCs, you'll appreciate this system's clever design and its relatively powerful hardware.

- eMachines T5274 not a stand-out With stiff competition from other sub-$400 PCs, eMachines' T5247 has a hard time standing out. It will certainly serve as a basic productivity system, but other desktops will help you stretch your computer dollar even further.

- D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 - wireless router might be worth some wait The D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 is a stable performer with excellent Web interface. But because it comes in a bulky, old-school design, has a relatively short range, and carries a hefty price tag, consider waiting for the price to drop before investing in this router.

- Samsung HL61A750 a good choice Samsung's HL61A750 61-inch rear-projection HDTV delivers excellent overall picture quality, and, compared to flat-panel options, it's a real bargain.

I'm not totally convinced anyone who is only willing to spend $140 on a digital camera really needs 10 megapixel resolution, but I’m sure there are folks out there who will want it, so let’s take a look. Janice Chen

Dell Studio Hybrid, new Inspirons reviewed
Dell announced today three new PCs. One of them, the Studio Hybrid, is a small form-factor desktop with a novel design that competes with the Apple Mac mini and HP Slimline series. The other two, the Dell Inspiron 13 laptop and Dell Inspiron 518 desktop, are more practical back-to-school boxes. John Morris

AT&T blunders on free Wi-Fi for iPhones
AT&T just can't commit. To free Wi-Fi for iPhone 3G customers, that is. The company seems to be having a blunder-fest with announcements that iPhone 3G customers can get free Wi-Fi at its nationwide AT&T WiFi HotSpots (most notably in Starbucks stores). Rik Fairlie
